Pipe Dream of Economic Globalism

One of the most perceptive financial thinkers and real world practitioners of economic policy is Paul Craig Roberts.  In one of his most observant essays he stated: “For globalism to work, there needs to a single currency and a single tax system -- a one world political system. Trade between countries is not like trade within a country. Trade between countries involves different currencies whose values change if there are persistent trade deficits or surpluses. A country that runs up a large trade imbalance due to its importation of cheap manufactured goods suddenly finds the goods are no longer cheap when the value of its currency declines.

It is amazing that so many citizens are eager to espouse the virtues of democracy. Multitudes of Americans love their government, no matter what it does or where it goes - the State is their mistress. Trusting in the institutions of the federal government is an article of faith, democracy protects the public, voting selects the representatives. Are you a ‘true believer’ in the system that serves the populace? Or are you one of those awful cynics that knock the good intentions of the inner circle that brings freedom and justice to the little folks?

Oh what a tangled web we weave, by allowing a high court to define what is equal. You remember Amendment XIV to that ‘living’ document that expands and contracts as the uppermost jurists sees fit: 

“No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

No wonder the excitement that Governor Davis might get 'Schwarzenegged' by the rage from a machine.
